Each one answers a single question, because that is usually how the question arrives: something specific happened, and you want to know what it means before you decide what to do about it. They are filed under dog ownership & care, food & nutrition, training & behavior, other animals and dog breeds. ### A reference for 510 breeds Alongside the guides is a table of every breed we have a published record for — height and weight by sex, breed group, country of origin and life expectancy, wherever a publisher recorded them — compiled from four sources that no single one of them combines. It is a map as well as a table: each breed is placed by an embedding of its own photographs, so two breeds sit near each other because they look alike, and [what looks like this one](https://www.woofandbeyond.com/dog-breed-explorer/) is a question the page answers by measuring distance rather than by offering an opinion. Any two breeds can also be [put side by side](https://www.woofandbeyond.com/compare-dog-breeds/), and that comparison states both values on every row and picks no winner — combining two publishers’ judgments into a verdict would be this site asserting an assessment it never made. ### How to read a recommendation here Every recommendation on this site is one you could check for yourself. Where a page names a product, it says what the evidence is and who produced it; where the evidence does not separate two options, the page says so instead of inventing a winner. Every breed rating names the publisher who scored it and which way the scale runs, and a breed nobody has published a rating for shows none rather than a number we guessed. Some product links earn this site a commission, which never decides which product gets named.
