Lady

Lady is an American Cocker Spaniel.

Lady’s breed is often confused with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. However, she has a docked tail and fluffy fur, which give away her true breed - an American Cocker Spaniel.

Lady was inspired by Disney’s writer Joe Grant’s English Springer Spaniel, which looked like a Cocker Spaniel and called Lady. After seeing sketches Joe Grant had drawn of his dog Lady, Walt Disney encouraged him to create the full storyboard.

Tramp

Tramp is a Schnauzer-terrier mix.

While Lady is pure-bred, Tramp is a mutt (mixed-breed). In the “Lady and the Tramp” live-action film from 2019, he is portrayed by a Schnauzer-terrier rescue dog named Monte.

Tramp was inspired after Walt Disney read a short story called “Happy Dan the Cynical Dog”. He then decided that a similar character would be perfect for “Lady and The Tramp”.
